What is Botox® Cosmetic?

Botox® (botulinum toxin type A) is a purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium. It is the most-studied botulinum toxin and one of the most widely researched medicines in the world. Botox® is the only treatment of its kind that affects the muscles that cause wrinkles between the brows.

Frown Lines are caused by overactive facial muscles.

Botox® cosmetic is an intramuscular injection that blocks the chemicals that cause facial muscles to contract, thereby temporarily relaxing them. Botox® is the only prescription treatment approved for the temporary treatment of frown lines in patients between 18 to 65 years of age. botox frown lines photograph and muscle illustration

With a few tiny injections, Botox® molecules block the release of acetycholine, the chemical that causes the muscles to contract. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smoothes out and the lines begin to fade.

How do I know if Botox® Cosmetic is right for me?

If you are between the ages of 18 and 65, you may be a candidate for Botox® Cosmetic. You should not be treated with Botox® Cosmetic if you have an infection at the proposed injection site. Patients with certain neurological disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.

How can I be sure I'm getting the real Botox® Cosmetic?

Only licensed and trained healthcare professionals have the experience necessary to administer Botox® Cosmetic. Allergan, Inc., the maker of Botox® Cosmetic, is the only source for healthcare professionals to purchase the product, and each label has the "Allergan" hologram.

Botox® for the treatment of Severe Primary Aaxillary Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Did you know that Botox® is used for the treatment of severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis? What is severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis? Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, or severe underarm sweating, is a medical condition that involves hyperactive sweat glands. Sweat is the body's temperature regulator. In severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis, sweating significantly exceeds the body's normal requirements. Severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis often goes undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and untreated due to lack of awareness.

How is Severe Primary Axillary Hyperhidrosis (Escessive Sweating) treated with Botox®?

Botox® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) injection is a treatment for severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis patients who are not responding to topical therapies, such as over-the-counter antiperspirants and topical aluminum chloride hexahydrate. Botox® is not a cure, but an ongoing treatment for severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis not adequately managed with topical agents. Botox® treatment helps control severe underarm sweating by temporarily blocking the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Research has shown that treating severe primary axillary hyperhidrosis with Botox® may provide effective, temporary control in many patients.
